ABA Legal Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law schools and to provide financial assistance to ensure that these students have the opportunity to attend law school for three years. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicant must be an entering first year law student; must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale at his/her undergraduate institution; and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic standing and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete the application form and submit along with a personal statement, two recommendations, of which one must be submitted from one of the applicant's professors, and a copy of the transcript from his/her undergraduate institution. Actuarial Scholarships for Minority Students (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational assistance for black students at the undergraduate or graduate level pursuing careers in the area of actuarial sciences. Focus: Actuarial science. Qualif.: Applicants must be students of African descent in the actuarial profession and must be originating from the United States, Canada, Caribbean or African Nations; must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; must have a Math SAT score of at least 600 or an ACT Math score of at least 28; and must be junior, senior or graduate students. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on proficient communications skills that should demonstrate clear interest in the actuarial profession; excellent recommendations from mathematics-related instructors; determination and self-motivation; familiarity with actuarial profession demands; and financial need.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must complete the application form and submit along with two nomination forms; an official, sealed current college transcript; an official sealed record of any educational examination scores taken; a Student Aid Report; and a copy of the page in college or university catalog or an information sheet showing an estimate of tuition, fees, and other expenses.
