AAEP/ALSIC Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To advance the health and welfare of horses by promoting the discovery and sharing of new knowledge; to enhance awareness of the need to the targeted research; to educate the public; to expand fundraising opportunities; to facilitate cooperation among funding agencies. Focus: Veterinary science and medicine. Qualif.: Applicants must be senior veterinary students who have indicated a strong desire to pursue a career in equine medicine at schools nationwide.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. Number Awarded: 8. To Apply: An applicant must fill out the online application form. Deadline: October 1.

AAEP Foundation Research Fellowships (Doctorate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To emphasize the importance of equine research; to reward a researcher for his or her contributions. Focus: Veterinary science and medicine. Qualif.: An applicant must be a current doctoral student or resident, or have completed their residency or doctorate within two years. Criteria: Scholarship Committee will evaluate application based on the potential for proposed research to contribute to equine veterinary medicine; sincere intent for long-term career in equine veterinary research; experience within horse industry; experience and activity in equine veterinary medicine; experience with equine research; academic performance; and based on the professional accomplishments before and after graduation.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. To Apply: An applicant must attach the complete filled out AAEP Research Fellow Cover Sheet; he/she must prepare a maximum one-page cover letter outlining long-term research intent, as well as how it will impact equine veterinary medicine and positively affect horse health; an applicant must include how the scholarship will help in doing the research; a maximum two-page scientific abstract and budget of the intent research project; an applicant must obtain a curriculum vitae, a completed evaluation form, a signed and sealed letter of recommendations; and an applicant must provide a self-addressed, stamped postcard to be returned as confirmation of receipt; an applicant must attend the AAEP Convention; he/she must provide information to AAEP for AAEP Foundation Publications such as biographical sketch, benefits of fellowship, impact of research result, Deadline: July 31.
