African-American broadcast journalist. Name variations: Carole Simpson Marshall. Born Dec 7, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois; University of Michigan, BA in journalism, 1962; m. James Marshall; children: Adam and Mallika.

Served as Washington correspondent on "NBC Nightly News" (1974–82); was substitute news anchor on "Good Morning America" (1988–95) and Sunday anchor on "ABC Evening News" (1988–2003).
