AAG IGIF Graduate Research Awards (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support college and university student career development in the academic areas of applied spatial data analysis or geographic information systems (GIS). Focus: Geography. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students who are currently registered in an undergraduate or graduate degree program providing either a degree or explicit specialization in some area of applied spatial data analysis or GIS study at a duly accredited and recognized college, university or other educational institution located within the United States. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on the following criteria: (a) The problem statement and context of the proposed research within the literature; (b) Originality and relevance of the research; (c) Validity and effectiveness of the methodology to complete the research; (d) Writing clarity and quality; (e) Faculty endorsement.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Applications for an AAG IGIF Graduate Research Award must consist of the following: (a) Abstract of research intent; (b) Statement of problem and relevancy; (c) Context of proposed research in the literature; (d) Methodology/research design; (e) Anticipated results and significance of such results; (e) Schedule of research; (f) Budget; (g) A letter of recommendation from a faculty member. AAG IGIF Student Travel Grants (Graduate, Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: To support college and university student career development in the academic areas of applied spatial data analysis or geographic information systems (GIS). Focus: Geography. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time students who are currently registered in an undergraduate or graduate degree program providing either a degree or explicit specialization in some area of applied spatial data analysis or GIS study at a duly accredited and recognized college, university or other educational institution located within the United States. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on academic record, letters of reference by the advisor and chair, and the focus and clarity of the applicant's statement related to his/her career goals as determined by the AAG IGIF Student Travel Grant Committee of Reviewers.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Applicants must submit a letter of no more than three pages in length which may be supplemented by no more than two pages of supporting illustrations (letter should specifically address how the grant funds will be used and should indicate the career goals of the student and how these funds will assist in meeting those goals); must provide a letter from the student's faculty advisor including an endorsement from the chairperson of the applicable program; must have a brief curriculum vita and recent transcript of records. Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to qualified individuals who want to pursue their education. Focus: Geography. Qualif.: Applicants must be students currently enrolled at a US community college, junior college, city college, or similar two-year educational institution; must have completed at least two transfer courses in geography and plan to transfer to a four-year institution as a geography major during the coming academic year. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on the overall quality of the application, scholastic excellence and academic promise. Consideration will be given to those in need of financial support.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must complete the scholarship application available online at www.aag.org/grantsawards/hessform.rtf; must submit a two page personal statement describing the applicant's academic and personal background, as well as the applicant's academic goals and interest in pursuing geography as a major at a baccalaureate institution; must have two letters of recommendation from college instructors; must have a copy of the applicant's current unofficial transcripts.
