For his first book, sports writer Ted A. Kluck chose the controversial former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson as his subject. Facing Tyson: Fifteen Fighters, Fifteen Stories tells what it was like to face the dominating Tyson in the ring, while also serving as a commentary on the boxing profession as a whole. Kluck interviewed famous boxers who fought Tyson, such as Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, as well as many boxers who were either never famous or who have since fallen out of public view. Also discussing Tyson's own fall from grace due to his prison sentence and violent behavior both in the ring and out, Kluck shows just what a difficult life boxing can be, where only the very lucky manage to retire in comfort. "Facing Tyson isn't a book about winners," explained Sean Goff in the Sunday Business Post. "It's about lost dreams and coping with what life has left to offer after the lights go down and the stadium empties." A Kirkus Reviews contributor asserted that Kluck's book "delivers some wake-up shots to the boxing community."
