Schneider-Trnavský, MikuláŠ
Schneider-Trnavský, MikuláŠ, Slovak choral conductor and composer; b. Trnava, May 24, 1881; d. Bratislava, May 28, 1958. He studied in Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. He was choirmaster of the cathedral of St. Mikulአin Trnava (1909–58); was named a National Artist in 1956. He publ. several valuable collections of Slovak folk songs, arranged with piano accompaniment: Sbierka slovenskych ludovych piesni (2 vols., 1905–10), Sbierka slovenskych narodnych piesni (5 sections, Bratislava, 1930; new ed., Prague, 1935–40), and 50 Slovakische Volkslieder (Bratislava, 1943). He also publ, a book of memoirs, Usmevy a slzy (Smiles and Tears; Bratislava, 1959).
