d’Andrade, Francesco
d’Andrade, Francesco, Portuguese baritone; b. Lisbon, Jan. 11, 1859; d. Berlin, Feb. 8, 1921. He studied with Miraglia and Ronconi. In 1882 he made his operatic debut as Amonasro in San Remo, then sang throughout Italy, Portugal, and Spain. In 1886 he made his debut at London’s Covent Garden as Rigoletto, singing there until 1890. He then was a member of the Berlin Royal Opera (1906–19). He gained fame for his portrayal of Don Giovanni. His brother, Antonio d’Andrade, was a tenor.
