Parmelia (order Lecanorales) A large genus of lichens in which the thallus is foliose and is frequently attached to its substrate by means of rhizines on the lower surface. The phycobiont is a green alga. The apothecia are lecanorine. Spores are colourless and aseptate. Parmelia species are found on trees, rocks, etc.; some are very common.
