Stehle, Sophie

Stehle, Sophie, German soprano; b. Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, May 15, 1838; d. Schloss Harterode, near Hannover, Oct. 4, 1921. She made her operatic debut as Emmeline in Weigl’s Schweizerfamilie in Munich (1860). She was a prominent member of the Munich Court Opera, where she created the roles of Fricka in Das Rheingold (Sept. 22, 1869) and Brünnhilde in Die Walküre (June 26, 1870). She also distinguished herself in other Wagnerian parts (Elisabeth, Elsa, Eva).
