Scholz, Bernhard E

Scholz, Bernhard E., German conductor, pedagogue, and composer; b. Mainz, March 30, 1835; d. Munich, Dec. 26, 1916. He studied with H. Esser and H. Pauer in Mainz, S. Dehn in Berlin, and A. Sangiovanni in Milan. After teaching in Munich and conducting in Zürich and Nuremberg, he was asst. court Kapellmeister in Hannover (1859–65); then conducted the Cherubini Soc. in Florence (1865–66), led the concerts of the Breslau Orch. Society (1871–82), and in 1883 succeeded Raff as director of the Hoch Cons. in Frankfurt am Main. He retired in 1908.
