Rupp, Franz
Rupp, Franz , German-American pianist and teacher; b. Schongau, Feb. 24, 1901; d. N.Y., May 27, 1992. He received his training at the Munich Akademie der Tonkunst. In 1920 he made his first tour of the U.S. with Willy Burmester, and subsequently acquired a distinguished reputation as an accompanist to Fritz Kreisler. In 1938 he settled in the U.S. and was accompanist to Marian Anderson until her retirement in 1965. He continued to perform regularly until his farewell appearance at the Lockenhaus Festival in Austria in 1985. He was also active as a teacher at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia.
