Krek, Uroš

Krek, Uroš, Slovenian composer; b. Ljubljana, May 21, 1922. He studied composition with Skerjanc at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, graduating in 1947. He worked for the Ljubljana Radio (1950–58), then did research for the Ljubljana Ethnomusicological Inst. (1958–67), and subsequently taught at his alma mater (1967–86). He was made a member of the Yugoslav Academyof Science and Art (1977) and the Slovene Academy of Science and Art (1979). His style of composition is classical in form, but contains some elements of folk modalities.
