Davies, Hugh (Seymour)

Davies, Hugh (Seymour) , English composer and instrument inventor; b. Exmouth, April 23, 1943. He was a pupil of Rubbra at the Univ. of Oxford (1961–64) and subsequently an assistant to Stockhausen as well as a member of his electronic music group (1964–66); then was director of the electronic music studio at Gold-smiths’ Coll., Univ. of London (1967–86), and subsequently was active as a consultant researcher. In addition to works for traditional instruments, he wrote music utilizing instruments of his own invention, tape, and electronics.
