Borghi, Giovanni Battista
Borghi, Giovanni Battista, Italian composer; b. Camerino, Macerata, Aug. 25, 1738; d. Loreto, Feb. 25, 1796. He studied at the Cons, della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples (1757–59). From 1759 to 1778 he was maestro di cappella at the Macerata Cathedral; from 1778, at S. Casa of Loreto. He composed some 25 operas, including La morte di Semiramide (Milan, Feb. 9, 1791), which was moderately successful. He also wrote a number of oratorios and other sacred works.
