Kurishima, Sumiko (1902–1987)
Japanese actress and dancer. Born Mar 15, 1902, in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan; died Aug 16, 1987, in Japan; m. Yoshinobu Ikeda (her longtime leading man).
The 1st female Japanese film star, joined Shochiku Kamata Studios (1921); appeared in Hototogisu (1922), Reijin (1930), Ojosan (1930), Yogoto no yume (1933), Shukujo wa nani o wasueta ka (1937) and Nagareru (1956), among others; retired from films but was active as head of the Mizuki school of dance.
