Kuri-Aldana, Mario

Kuri-Aldana, Mario, Mexican composer and teacher; b. Tampico, Aug. 15, 1931. He studied piano with Carlos del Castillo at the Academia Juan Sebastian Bach in Mexico City (1948–51) and composition with Tercero, Vazquez, and Michaca at the Escuela Nacional de Mùsica of the Autonomous Univ. of Mexico (1952–60); took conducting courses from Markevitch and Giardino at the National Inst. of Fine Arts (1957–58); then privately studied advanced techniques of composition with Rodolfo Halffter and Luis Herrera de la Fuente (1961–62); took lessons with Ginastera, R. Malipiero, Messiaen, Maderna, Dallapiccola, Copland, and Chase in various venues (1963–64), and with Stock-hausen at the Mexico City Cons. (1965). He was active as a teacher from 1955.
