Iranian vice president. Name variations: Masumeh Ebtekar. Born 1960 in Tehran, Iran; attended school in US; Shahid Beheshti University, BSc in medical technology, 1985; Tarbiat Modarres University, MA in education, MSc in immunology, 1989, and PhD in immunology, 1995.
Named one of the 7 vice presidents of Iran by moderate president Mohammad Khatami (Aug 1997), the 1st woman to serve in a top government post since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution; was also named to head the Organization for the Protection of the Environment; began serving as editor of the English-language newspaper Kayhan (1981).
