Eboué, Félix Adolphe

Félix Adolphe Eboué (fālēks´ ädôlf´ ĕbwā´), 1884–1944, French colonial official. After service in Martinique and in the Sudan, he became France's first black colonial governor. He served as governor of Chad (1938–40), and then as governor-general of French Equatorial Africa (1940–44), attempting to develop the economy of the region while retaining a respect for African society and customs.
