WHAT ARE "ETHICS"?

Ethics involves assessing what is valuable and why, informing decisions about what should be done. These kinds of value-based questions can be very complex and involve many points of view, which are often incompatible and contradictory. Philosophy has a long history of exploring ethical issues from many different perspectives, including "meta-ethical" points of view that explore how we assess what is valuable and "good." There are practical perspectives as well as ideological and metaphysical perspectives, all of which can be drawn from when thinking about what we should do in space.
