Gundicar
c. 385-437
Founder of the kingdom of Burgundy and an important figure in the transition from ancient to medieval times. In 413 Gundicar's Burgundians became one of the first nomadic tribes to settle down and establish a kingdom, which would maintain Burgundian lands in eastern France until 1477. An ally of Rome, Gundicar died in a battle against Attila the Hun (c. 400-453), and was later celebrated in numerous medieval legends.
