Gundry, Inglis

Gundry, Inglis, English composer; b. London, May 8, 1905; d. there, April 13, 2000. He studied law at Balliol Coll., Oxford (M.A, 1927) and at the Middle Temple (1927-29) before pursuing his musical training with Vaughan Williams, Gordon Jacob, and R.O. Morris at the Royal Coll. of Music in London (1935-38). In 1936 he won the Cobbett Prize. From 1946 he lectured on music, and later was founder-music director of the Sacred Music Drama Soc. (1960-86). He publ. Opera in a Nutshell (1945), The Nature of Opera as a Composite Art (1947), and Composers by the Grace of God: A Study of Music and Religion (1989).
