New Caledonia floral region Part of R. Good's (The Geography of the Flowering Plants, 1974) Polynesian subkingdom, within his palaeotropical kingdom, which also includes the Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. It has a remarkably rich flora, with a qualitatively high degree of endemism. Some of the endemic genera, of which there are well over 100, constitute separate families (or nearly so). See also FLORAL PROVINCE and FLORISTIC REGION.
