State-supported, 4-year, coed. Part of State University System of Florida. Awards bachelor's degrees. Founded 1960. Setting: 144-acre suburban campus with easy access to Tampa-St. Petersburg. Collegiate Environment:
Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 43 open to all; 25% of eligible men and 40% of eligible women are members. Most popular organizations: Nice Random Acts of Kindness, Interfaith groups, New College Student Alliance, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, Sailing Club. Major annual events: Halloween Palm Court Party, Towne Meetings, Dance Tutorial Perfomances. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling, women's center. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service. College housing designed to accommodate 460 students; 470 undergraduates lived in college housing during 2003-04. Freshmen guaranteed college housing. On-campus residence required through sophomore year. Option: coed housing available. Jane Bancroft Cook Library with 256,581 books, 539,038 microform titles, 1,925 serials, 4,246 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $1.1 million. 41 computers available on campus for general student use. Computer purchase/lease plans available. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms and from off campus. Staffed computer lab on campus.
