Lonicera (honeysuckles; family Caprifoliaceae) A genus of 180 species of shrubs or woody climbers, most of which are deciduous. The flowers are usually very fragrant and pentamerous, with a corolla that is tubular below and usually strongly 2-lipped, but may be almost regular. The ovary is 2-celled, ripening to a few-seeded berry. Honeysuckles are much grown for ornament or, in the case of the evergreen L. nitida, for hedges. They occur in the northern hemisphere as far south as Mexico and the Philippines.
