lapse time
lapse time Estimate of the time interval between the ending of nucleosynthesis and the consolidation of meteorite parent bodies. Lapse times may be calculated from the detection in meteoritic material of the daughter isotopes (see DAUGHTER NUCLIDE) of short-lived radionuclides which are now extinct, but which survived until meteoritic condensation. Times of about 108 years have been deduced.
