ZACHARIAS, JOHN

ZACHARIAS, JOHN (1917– ), Swedish stage director. At the Boulevard Theater, Stockholm, 1947–50, Zacharias directed Thieves' Carnival by Jean Anouilh and Crimes and Crimes by August Strindberg. In 1950 he became head of the City Theater of Helsingborg, and in 1953 head of the City Theaters of Norrköping and Linköping, a position he retained for 25 years. Among his most successful presentations were Drei Groschen Oper, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Oppenheimer Case, and Fiddler on the Roof.
