LAUDUS (LÔ), ST.
Bishop; b. perhaps at St. Lô, Normandy, France; d. c. 568. He became bishop of Coutances c. 523 and attended the synods of Orléans in 533, 538, 541, and 549, as well as the funerals of St. Paternus (d. 563) and St. Marculf (d. 558). He was a friend of St. Melanie of Rennes (d. c. 535). As patron saint of Coutances, he has his own Office; and in the Mass, his own Sequence and Preface. There is evidence that his cult existed also at Bayeux, where he was perhaps buried, at Rouen, and at Angers in the ninth century, when his vita was written.
