HUNT, THOMAS, BL.

Priest, martyr; vere Benstead; b. c. 1574 in Norfolk, England; d. c. July 11, 1600, hanged, drawn, and quartered at Lincoln. He studied at the English Colleges of Valladolid and Seville, Spain, where he was ordained (c.1599). He was not in England long before he was arrested. Imprisoned at Wisbeach, Hunt escaped with five others and remained free for several months. He was with Bl. Thomas sprott at Saracen's Head Inn, Lincoln, when he was arrested a second time. They were convicted of treason for being priests. The two were beatified by Pope John Paul II on Nov. 22, 1987 with George Haydock and Companions.
