HUNT, Wolf Robe 1905-1977

PERSONAL: Also known as Wayne Henry Hunt; alternate Native American name, Kewa; born October 14, 1905, in Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico Territory (now New Mexico); died December 10, 1977. Education: Attended University of Chicago; studied with Carl Redin and Frank Von der Laucken.

CAREER: Painter and jewelry designer. Operator of various galleries in Oklahoma, beginning 1937; dancer, dance interpreter, and leader of a dance troupe. Also lecturer and writer. Exhibitions: Work represented in solo and group shows, including exhibitions at Philbrook Museum of Art, Heard Museum, American Indian Exposition of 1935, U.S. Department of the Interior, and Mayfest International Festival.

AWARDS, HONORS: Named Oklahoma Indian of the Year, Council of American Indians, 1973; Waite Phillips Trophy, Philbrook Museum of Art, 1974.
