Kiril Mazurov (kĬrēl´ mäzōō´rôf), 1914–89, Soviet political leader. A construction technician, he joined the Communist party in 1940, and was active in the Communist youth organization. Rising in the party hierarchy in Belorussia, Mazurov served as chairman of the Belorussian council of ministers (1953–56) and first secretary of the Belorussian Communist party (1956–65) before becoming (1965–76) first deputy premier of the USSR. From 1965 to 1978 he was a member of the presidium (later renamed the politburo) of the Communist party central committee.
