Mazzoleni, Ester

Mazzoleni, Ester , Italian soprano; b. Sebenico, March 12, 1883; d. Palermo, May 17, 1982. After vocal studies, she made her operatic debut in Rome in 1906 as Leonora in Il Trovatore. From 1908 to 1917 she appeared at Milan’s La Scala, where she sang such roles as Spontini’s Giulia and Cherubim’s Médée. She also sang Aida at Verona (1913) and appeared in many other Italian opera centers. Her guest engagements also took her to various European opera houses. Among her other roles were Norma, Elisabeth de Valois, and Lucrezia Borgia.
