Armendáriz, Pedro (1912–1963)

Pedro Armendáriz (b. 1912; d. 18 June 1963), Mexican actor. Born in Mexico City, Armendáriz attended school in San Antonio, Texas, and completed his studies at the California Polytechnic Institute. He worked as a journalist in the United States before returning to Mexico in 1934. Armendáriz debuted in the film María Elena (1935) and went on to appear in more than 100 movies. He was a leading actor with the famed team of director Emilio "El Indio" Fernández. Armendáriz's striking screen presence made him one of the most popular leading stars of Mexican cinema. His most memorable films are Distinto Amanecer (1943), María Candelaria (1943), Maclovia (1948), La perla (1946), and Ena-morada (1947). He was also cast in several Hollywood films, including Fort Apache (1948) and From Russia with Love (1963). He died in Los Angeles.
