MILITARY ORDER OF THE LOYAL LEGION OF THE U.S.A
MILITARY ORDER OF THE LOYAL LEGION OF THE U.S.A., an organization resembling the Society of the Cincinnati, was established at Philadelphia in 1865 by a group of officers who had served in the Union army during the Civil War. The founders originally limited membership to such officers and their eldest male descendants, according to the laws of primogeniture; in subsequent years the society opened its membership rolls to all male descendants of Union officers. The order, whose headquarters are still in Philadelphia, publishes the Loyal Legion Historical Journal.
