Michael P. Anderson Scholarships in Space Science (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support interest in physics by providing educational assistance to skilled physics majors. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Applicants must be physics majors in their junior or senior year. Criteria: Recipient is selected based on merit and evaluation of the applicant’s scientific abilities and potential which includes versatility, ability to make sound judgments, major academic strengths and weaknesses (if any) and performance in an independent study (if any) as manifested through documents submitted.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply: Applicant must send the complete application package along with official transcripts and a stamped envelope to: Scholarship Committee Chair, National Society of Black Physicists, 6704G Lee Highway, Arlington, VA 22205. Deadline: January 12.

APS Scholarships for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To inspire pursuits in physics education specifically among minority undergraduates. Focus: Physics. Qualif.: Any African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is majoring or planning to major in physics; a high school senior, college freshman, or sophomore is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Criteria: Recipient is selected based on the committee’s review of their academic eligibility.

Funds Avail.: $2,000 (for new minority scholars); $3,000 (for renewal students) to be used for tuition, room & board and educational materials. To Apply: Applicants may download application materials in the website. Deadline: February 6. Remarks: Established in 1980.
