Fulbright New Century Scholars Program (Professional Development/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide supporting fund for researches on various academic and professional fields conducted
abroad. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be conducting current research relevant to the program's theme and objectives, be open to exploring and incorporating comparative, interdisciplinary approaches in their investigations, and interested in developing collaborative activities with other NCS Scholars. Criteria: Selection criteria include professional qualifications, lecturing activity, research activity, and language proficiency report. Preference is given to candidates who do not have substantial recent experience abroad in the country to which they are applying; preference will also be given to candidates who have not previously been awarded a Fulbright award.

Long-Term Postdoctoral Fellowships for Biomedical and Behavioral Research in Japan (Professional Development/Fellowship)
Purpose: To support meritorious biomedical and behavioral research projects undertaken in NIH laboratories by young Japanese postdoctoral researchers who intend to hold research positions at Japanese universities or other academic institutions or public institutions in Japan in the future. Focus: Biomedical research. Qualif.: Applicants must possess either nationality, permanent residence or citizenship of the nominating country; must hold a doctorate degree when the fellowship goes into effect; and have arranged in advance a research plan with their Japanese host. Individuals who have previously been awarded a fellowship of 12 months or longer under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program or the STA Fellowship Program are not eligible. Criteria: Awards are given based on merit.
Funds Avail.: 392,000 yen (monthly maintenance allowance); 200,000 yen (settling-in allowance); 58,500 yen (domestic research travel allowance); and round-trip air ticket.
