Bioni, Antonio

Bioni, Antonio, Italian composer; b. Venice, 1698; d. after 1739. He was a pupil of Giovanni Porta. Among his works are 33 stage pieces, most of which were first performed at the Ballhaus Theater in Breslau, where he was impresario, composer, and arranger (1730–34); three of these scores were written for Prague. In 1731 he became composer to the Mainz electoral court. Among his other works are a serenata for the Archduchess Maria Theresia, La pace fra la virtù e la bellezza (Vienna, 1739), and a Mass.
