AISC/Carolina Steel Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To encourage greater interest in structural steel design. Focus: Civil engineering; Architectural engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time civil or architectural engineering students of U.S. Citizenship entering their 3rd or 4th year of study from a university in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Criteria: Applicant selection is based on academic merit, faculty recommendation and evaluation of short essay and steel design analysis/designs submitted giving preference to students concentrating in the field of structural steel.
Funds Avail.: $3,000. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply:
Applicants must submit an official transcript; a reference and optional letter of reference; a short essay on overall career objective and an original sample steel design

AISC/Fred R. Havens Fellowships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to those studying civil engineering. Focus: Civil engineering; Architectural engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens studying civil or architectural engineering full-time at universities in Missouri, Kansas or at MIT. Applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students who have completed one steel design course. Criteria: Undergraduate applicants are selected based on academic merit, faculty recommendation and evaluation of short essay and steel design analysis/designs submitted while graduate students applying are evaluated.

Undergraduate applicants must submit an official transcript; a reference and optional letter of reference; a two-page essay on his/her interest in steel structures and an original sample steel design analysis/design solution with calculations. In addition to the mentioned requirements, graduate students applying must submit an official transcript; a reference and optional letter of reference; and a one-page detailed answers to the following: (a) Demonstrate concentration on steel related course work and/or thesis with a strong steel orientation, or (b) Demonstrate proposed course work and proposed thesis concentration in structural steel.
