Hårleman, Carl
Hårleman, Carl (1700–52). Swedish architect, son of the landscape-architect Johan Hårleman (1662–1707), he assisted Tessin the Younger in building the Royal Palace, Stockholm, and introduced the French Rococo style in his works in Stockholm and Drottningholm. He designed various country-houses based on Blondel's ideas that were influences on Adelcrantz and others. In the 1740s he carried out sensitive works at the Carolinian Mortuary Chapel (Karolinska Grafkoret), Riddarholms Church, Stockholm, originally designed by Tessin the Elder. Among his other works were the exquisite maison de plaisance at Svartsjö (1735–9) and the East India Company warehouse, Göteborg (c.1740), a four-storey industrial building with Sublime qualities.
