SIDELIGHTS:

Richard P. Sugg once told CA: "My first published poem, worth four dollars in 1946, was a rhyme for a Hallmark Christmas card. Mother (or Santa Claus) was the muse then. Hart Crane excited my attention in high school, via Untermeyer's popular anthology; ‘Repose of Rivers’ was the most compelling poem. Soon after my son was born, I was drawn to the poetry of Robert Bly, and understanding Bly's work required that I learn about Jungian psychology and its literary uses. I continue to believe that keeping one's life and work related is the most productive and satisfying way to proceed. To that end, I recently completed an M.S.W. program, a further education useful not only for teaching literature, but also for opening up new interdisciplinary opportunities, such as poetry therapy."
