SIDELIGHTS: A fitness instructor, humorist, and well-traveled adventurer, Suzanne Schlosberg has always striven "to be useful," as she told People contributor Samantha Miller. In doing so, she has built a house in Papua New Guinea, taught English in China, and helped Earthwatch monitor chimpanzees' reactions to different toys, all of which she chronicles at her Web site, MissionImplausible.com. At the same time, she has written books, articles, and a regular newspaper column to help readers reach their fitness and weight-loss goals. In Fitness for Travelers: The Ultimate Workout Guide for the Road, she draws on her own numerous experiences as well as readers' stories to provide simple but effective techniques for staying in shape, such as running up and down motel steps, and provides a list of her favorite gyms in different cities.

On a more personal level, Schlosberg relates her own spell of celibacy, which she nicknames "The Stretch," in The Curse of the Singles Table: A True Story of 1,001 Nights without Sex. As she searches for the most date-friendly city in America and endures an ill-fated week at Club Med, Schlosberg maintains her humorous outlook and determination to let others benefit from her own hard-won insights. Being "as far as we know, the first chick-lit author who's an athlete," according to a Muscle & Fitness/Hers contributor, Schlosberg foregoes drowning her sorrows in Bloody Marys and eating binges. Instead, she takes long mountain bike rides, including the grueling Arctic Ocean Ride of Pain to mark the 1,000th night of being on her own. As fate would have it, this ride takes her to a Russian town where she finally meets the man she's been looking for. For Booklist reviewer Paula Luedtke, this "sex travelogue is funny and real, warm and engaging."
