Schlosser, Max

Schlosser, Max, distinguished German tenor; b. Amberg, Oct. 17, 1835; d. Utting am Ammersee, Sept. 2, 1916. He sang in Zürich, St. Gallen, and Augsburg, but then decided to become a baker. Still, he did not abandon hopes for a stage career. He met Biilow, who entrusted him with the role of David at the premiere of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Munich in 1868; he remained a member of the Munich Court Opera until his retirement in 1904. He also sang at Bayreuth and made guest appearances with Neumann’s traveling opera company. He was principally known for his fine performances of the Wagnerian repertoire.
