SIDELIGHTS:
Stefania Michelucci told CA: "I am fond of literature, especially fiction and poetry. I believe that literature and the visual arts are among the best forms of expression and communication. Critical writing is a pleasure, besides being part of my job as a literary scholar.
"My writing process is partly rational, partly irrational. Usually I have an idea, a series of thoughts, then they slowly develop into writing, but it does not happen immediately, or at least it does not follow a straight line. The idea takes its proper form in the writing process, which usually involves a series of revisions.
"My book on space and place in the works of D. H. Lawrence was influenced by an interest in anthropology, philosophy, semiotics—that is, an interdisciplinary approach to literary texts. An interdisciplinary approach (focused on the relationship between literature and the visual arts, between words and icons) has also influenced my essays on Lawrence and Ruskin, Lawrence and Cézanne, Thom Gunn and Caravaggio. Part of my work, including the book on the poetry of Thom Gunn, has been influenced by an interest in the body and its forms of expression."
