Brian McCartney Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To improve the quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in Michigan through advocacy, education, leadership, and service. Focus: Hearing and deafness. Qualif.: Applicants must be deaf or hard of hearing high school seniors who intend to further their education at a college, university, state-certified trade school or a state-certified technical school, or a high school senior who is presently speech and/or language impaired. Applicants must be citizens of the United States; must be of good character and self-motivated. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic performance.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Applicant must submit a copy of the applicant's IEPC or a letter from an appropriate school representative stating that the applicant meets the requirements; transcript of grades from senior year; three letters of recommendation from school representative, member of clergy, representative of community service organization, employer, or parent/guardian; must write an essay describing the volunteer activities and/or experiences that demonstrate their leadership skills, their career goals and plans to use the scholarship. Applicant must submit a letter of acceptance after the selection process. Deadline: March 31.
