SIDELIGHTS:
Paola Malpezzi Price told CA: "My primary motivation for writing my articles and book was to let more people know about the life, works, and ideas of Moderata Fonte, a sixteenth-century Venetian writer, as well as to analyze women's role and place in sixteenth-century Venice." Historians Joan Kelly and Gerda Lerner have influenced my work.
"As a woman and as a medieval and renaissance scholar, I became more and more interested first in women's writings, then in women's social roles. My book is a synthesis of both interests, focusing on a unique place: Venice!"
