Malovec, Jozef
Malovec, Jozef, Slovak composer; b. Hurbanovo, March 24, 1933; d. Bratislava, Oct. 7, 1998. He received private instruction in harmony, counterpoint, and musical form from Zimmer before pursuing training with A. Moyzes at the Bratislava Academy of Music and Drama (1952–54) and with Řidký and Sommer at the Prague Academy of Music (1954–57). In 1965 he attended the summer course in new music in Darmstadt. From 1957 to 1981 he was program advisor and ed. of the Czechoslovak Radio in Bratislava, where he also was program advisor of its Electroacoustic Studio (1977–81). In 1980 he won the Union of Slovak Composers Award, in 1989 he was named an Artist of Merit, and in 1998 he was awarded an honorary prize from the Ministry of Culture. While dodecaphonic and electroacoustic explorations permeate his output, he infused a number of his works with Slovakian folkloristic elements.
