SIDELIGHTS: Louise Landes Levi told CA: "I have been writing poetry since childhood. I grew up in a polylingual environment and knew three ancient languages by the time I went to the university. I was introduced to European and Oriental poetic translation and read widely in these areas.

"I went to India, learning rudimentary Sanskrit, Hindi, and Urdu while studying Indian music. From this passion my translations of Reni Daugal, Henri Michaux, and Mira Bai emerged.

"I devoted myself to the perfection, publication, and distribution of poetry in Amsterdam and later New York City, where I met my present publisher."*
