SIDELIGHTS: Hilary Hoge told CA: "My primary motivation for writing is to communicate my experience as a psychotherapist to an audience that may include other therapists as well as interested non-professionals. After working with many individuals suffering the aftermath of divorce, I chose this subject to write about, as I realized that the current literature fails to address how traumatic divorce may be when it is unilaterally conceived and imposed.
"I also find that writing helps me clarify my thinking, and it helps me articulate what Christopher Bollas calls the 'unthought known.' Although I've never attempted such a thing, I imagine that I write like a sculptor works with stone—I start with an unorganized block of words, and then gradually chisel and reshape them until I find what I am looking for."
