SIDELIGHTS:
Johan Cederlund is an art historian and museum curator. He has worked at the Uppsala Museum of Art, which is housed in the historic Uppsala Castle, a huge structure built in the sixteenth century in Sweden. The castle also serves as the residence of the governor of Uppsala. The museum's collection is particularly notable for its prints, which range from those made as early as the sixteenth century to those created with modern experimental techniques. There are also regional works and an extensive collection of pottery.
In his book Classical Swedish Architecture and Interiors: 1650-1830, Cederlund discusses several critical periods in Swedish design. The Baroque, Late Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassic, and Empire styles are all covered. The author points out the major sites for viewing various expressions of Swedish architectural and interior design. His work touches on everything from humble household objects to the homes of monarchs. A reviewer for Reference & Research Book News stated that "Cederlund's text opens the world of Swedish architecture to a broader, English-speaking audience."
