SIDELIGHTS: Deborah Zimmett Becker told CA: "I always loved to read! Books were my favorite companions. When I was in fourth grade, we lived within walking distance of the local library. My special treat was to walk there by myself and choose books to check out. I was never a great student, and I certainly didn't like to write! My background in nursing and education are the motivating factors in my decision to write children's books because I like to explain things to kids. When kids understand what is happening to them or around them, they are happier and there is no limit to what they can achieve.*"
