Vogel, Vladimir (b Moscow, 1896; d Zurich, 1984). Russo-Ger.-born composer (Swiss cit. 1954). Taught at Klindworth-Scharwenka Cons. 1929–33, then settled in Switzerland. Several large-scale works using speaking ch. and Sprechs-timme. Style a compound of Berg's 12-note technique and Busoni neo-classicism. Works incl.: 4 Études for orch. (1930–2); Tripartita for orch. (1934); vn. conc. (1937); vc. conc. (1954); Epitaph for Alban Berg, pf. (1936); Thyl Claes, sop., 2 speakers, speaking ch., orch.
